decorating
tips
Sproucing
up your apartment, home, cabin or cottage on a budget doesn't mean that you
have to use a card table and a beach chair for you living room furnishings.
For those of you who are on a limited spending budget you can still make
your home a great place to live. You can begin your excursion into home
decorating by keeping a folder and putting in all notes, magazine clippings
and pictures that you accumulate for ideas.

You
should always try to get decorating ideas that suite your own individual
tastes and likes. You should not fear expressing yourself in the colors and
the accessories that you choose. You should keep in mind that you should always
try to get decorating ideas that suite your own individual tastes and likes.
You should not fear expressing yourself in the colors and the accessories
that you choose. You should keep in mind that you should not put the stress
on yourself to finish the project right away it can be kept as a work in
progress. Try to live with some ideas that you've picked out. In time you
might not like the home decor that you have made and may choose to go another
way with it. Or you might feel that you like what you have done, and you
want to build on that. After you've lived in the room you know what you want
and need, and you can avoid making unnecessary purchases. If things progress
slowly this way, you tend to save yourself money. A room is never really
finished anyway, it should be an always changing work of art.
The
color that you choose for your room is very important. When planning to design
a room motif, remember to choose furniture color very carefully. Try choosing
a neutral color like a muted earthtone such as grays or greens. They will
tend to go with many other colors. This would be important if you change
your room colors in the future for a change. Earthtones or neutrals like
black or white may be more versatile than bright orange or yellow. The color
choices that you choose now in your main large furniture options will set
the tone of a room. And they can limit your choices in the future. A good
idea is to reserve the the trendy or bright colors for rugs, pillows and
other home furnishing accessories that can be changed later for little cost.
If you are unsure of what colors to use, try a fabric store. Pick out fabric
in colors that you like and can live with. Then when you shop for your
accessories and paint you can carry the swatches with you to make sure that
thing go together. Another good idea is top check out your closet and your
dresser draws. This will tell you what colors that you wear most often. These
will be the colors that you are most comfortable wearing, and probably the
colors that you will be most comfortable living with. Paint is often an
inexpensive way to change the look of a room.

Remember
to get a small amount of paint in the color that you are thinking of getting
at first, then put a couple of coats on the small section of the wall area
near your existing furnishings. If you are satisfied with that color then
go back and buy enough to complete the job. If you don't like the color,
or thought that it would look better in your room, you are only out the amount
for a small pint of paint, rather then being stuck with a few gallons of
special mix colors that you can't return. Believe me, you'll thank me later.
Then all you do is have to paint over that small area with the color that
is really right for you.
There
are different painting techniques that can give a room a dramatic effect.
Some of these techniques are sponging, ragging, stroking and marbelizing.
The effects will give any room a fancy, expensive look with a lot of depth
and without the expense. Be warned that faux techniques can be overdone,
so be careful not to do it on every wall. Try having one wall as an accent
wall with the technique, and the others without it. As above this will give
you an idea if that particular technique is really for you, and if that is
what you want to live with. If you decide it is and you want to do more,
then just finish up the other walls that way, if not then just paint right
over it. When decorating your home, wallcoverings, while remaining a viable
option over painting, can be more costly. Boarders can be used inexpensively
to add an accent to any wall with many paint color combinations.

Boarders
are also fairly easy to change or paper over if you want to change your look
later on. Wall paper may be a good option for you if your room is void of
any interesting architectural lines. Other ideas for wall treatments are
putting up molding. Here, synthetic or artificial wood can be an option because
it usually costs a lot less than real wood molding. Once it is painted it
will appear to like like real wood. Or better yet, use a handsome faux treatment
finish of your choice. Then it will look like some altogether different than
wood. Wall covering that is textured or embossed can be painted. Using that
covering on the ceiling can make your ceiling look like an expensive tin
ceiling. Before you start with this home decor, make sure that you purchase
a small swatch of the covering just to be sure that you will like it when
it covers your whole ceiling or all your walls. If you don't do this test
first I may have to just tell you that "I told you so". And you may lose
a lot of your budget money and you may waste a lot of your time tearing down
wall covering. Not a pleasant job I might add.
Inexpensive
wall accessories can be a great way to show creativity when finishing the
overall look of your room. We suggest looking at what you have already. Look
in your cabinates, look in your closets. Do you have any old craft items,
fancy plates, or old books. Perhaps you have some family pictures that you
want to display. These can perk up a plain wall with different areas of interest,
and give the flat wall a bit more depth. Maybe you make crafts or pieces
of art that you can make the focal point of your room.
We
have, on this site that you are on right now, a complete catalogue of wrought
iron home decor items to make your room what you want it to be. Home decorating
with quality accessories can be both easy and inexpensive. For example, a
simple tapered candle holder with an inexpensive candle stick may be all
you need on an end table to go from plain to understated elegance. In a dining
room or in your country kitchen, a wine rack with a couple of bottles of
vino will make your room decor.
For
ease of decorating your home bathroom we have themes. Our fine heavy weight
wrought iron products come in themed groupss . For instance, if you like
cats, combine a cat towel bar with a cat towel ring. Add a cat toilet paper
holder, cat tiebacks and cat curtain swags. Add a simple piece of fabric
to the window, and put on your cat themed wall switch cover for your light
switch and a cat themed outlet cover to the electric outlets, and your cat
themed country bathroom is all set. We have themed collections of horses,
cats, fairies, cows, pigs and many more options. We even have nautical themes
such as seashells, lighthouses and boats. Check out our bathroom decor page
to see some of the examples. Visit our themed pages to put your own collections
Decorating
your kitchen has never been easier either. You can put together groups of
items. Just figure out which of our many themes you want to go with. If you
are into horses, you could get a horse standing paper towel holder for the
counter. Couple that with a wall mounted horse themed paper towel holder.
Then you can choose from a closed or open napkin holder with a horse on it
of course. Horse key holders would be great so you won't loose your keys
anymore. Finish off the room with a horse themed towel bar, and horse adorned
outlet and wall switch plate covers. Your country kitchen will be a hit.
Here
is another tip for your home decor. Get another set of items like the ones
described above, but with dogs or angels, or leafs, or moose, or fireman,
or another theme that you are into. That way when you get tired of your kitchen
decor, you can change the theme with just a quick switch, and a few screws.
